Overview

Carnival Chaos is a short 2.5D shooting game where you play through the stands of a mysterious nighttime Carnival! Play at the different shooting galleries and hit as many targets as you can within the given time and win different prizes depending on your score!

Development

Though my team was once again picked at random I had the fortune of getting a Team with many people I had worked with before on both Psybot and Threadborne. With a motivated and cooperative team we went through a few game ideas before settling on the simple concept of a shooting gallery game. A simple gameplay loop with many opportunities for new mechanics to spice it up.

We had 10 Weeks to complete the game which was split into 5 Milestones each with 2 Week Sprints.

Learnings

A new way of making Levels

While I had worked on a 2.5D game before and made both 2D and 3D Levels, figuring out how to create Levels for a shooting Gallery in Unity was something new entirely.

Most important was how the Targets were going to move across the screen in sequences. The Programmers first Idea of using Animations proved to tedious, so I went on the search for a better way. This led me to a Unity Asset for Bezier Curves which would allow me to create a reusable path for the Targets to follow.

Once the tools I needed were there it became a process of creating and organizing the paths and Target Sequences so that I could plan out and create Levels more efficiently.
